Oh, religion! Yes, it’s a very sensitive issue. I think it’s quite hard to talk to someone who wholeheartedly believes in their religion about how their religion might be wrong, because if you really believe in something then you don’t really want to hear anything bad about it. :(

I generally think that most people should try to be open about other religions. I mean even if you wholeheartedly believe in something, surely you can listen to peoples’ criticisms, and try to, I don’t know…have a debate.

What’s really offensive is when someone is fully like “YOUR RELIGION IS WRONG! I CAN’T STAND YOUR RELIGION! WHAT I BELIEVE IS RIGHT!” because, well that’s direspectful. And imposing your religion on someone isn’t going to make them believe it.

We’re studying Judaism in R.S! It’s quite interesting. I also like to learn about other people’s beliefs.

I know what you mean about religion; a lot of people seem to get so up in arms about it and it’s really sad to see something that’s supposed to bring people together actually drive them apart. Like you, I find myself quite interested by other religions – they’re interesting to read about (and observe when you get the chance), and a lot of them have certain bits and pieces that I’d love to see combined into some melting pot religion of my own making. (As opposed to the other religion of my own making – the cult of Alyism that I tried to start in high school, hehe).

That’s really exciting about your ballet exam! Well, nerve-wracking it sounds too, but still exciting. :) Good luck and be confident! I’m sure you’ll be just fine. It’s an amazing achievement to think that you’ve gotten so far as to be going for qualifications to teach – kudos to you! And fingers crossed about your uni results too! Hope you get the results you’re hoping for. :)

And religion is a touchy subject. I know I start to get touchy when people try to force their religion down my throat. I don’t mind having discussions about religion. It can be fun and stimulating, but if people are going to start the whole “You should become XXXX so you can go to heaven or whatever” then I’ll be like SHADDUP. Otherwise, though, it can make for a great philosophical discussion. Like whenever I didn’t have a clue on certain religious practice, I’d ask my friends, and they’d explain it to me with no hidden agenda. It was nice! They get to talk about what they know and educate me while I get to learn something new!

As an atheist, the one thing I never understood is why people can’t have more than one religion. I believe in the Christian principles, but I also find a lot of the Buddhist ideology fitting for me, too! With that, I’d so be both religion (if I did believe in a higher being), but Christian/Islamic/Judaism religion all forbid that ~___~;; I don’t . . . like that restrictiveness!

oh my god I was having this very thought yesterday! There’s this one person on my scripteddestiny twitter who I don’t follow on my main one and she’s always like, and I actually quote, “”Smile. Jesus loves you” Only if we decide to believe. Basically believing in him is like believing you’ll live in a mansion tomorrow. Chances are slim” and “Omg there’s so much Christmas SHIT in these mags. It’s really offensive because people do believe in that stuff and just because one individual doesn’t, it doesn’t mean that nobody believes. Happy Hanukkah! That’s the first time I know that Hanukkah is Chanukah XD ! I didn’t know Rachael was Jewish, I thought she was christian. i don’t celebrate Hanukkah as well, but I do congratulate people of it.

I am Muslim, and I do believe in Islam. And Islam orders us to respect other people’s religion, so I do. I really hate it when people don’t, and go around talking about someone else’s religion and not even knowing about it. That’s why I don’t talk so much about other people’s religion,simply because I don’t know much about them so I can’t judge on anything.

Your situation with the forum often happens a lot. it’s your opinion, some may disagree with it which is okay but they need to have some respect. I think problems come from lack of respect.

I’m so glad things you’re mom are going okay. My relationship with mom is a bit rough now, it’s because i have these anger moments and I just can’t control myself and I don’t even realize it. My sister said it’s because of my depression so these things are supposed to happen, but I don’t know.

There are always times when we feel like “Where is God?” and there are even times when we question his existence. :( But as my teacher had said He is only waiting for us to remember Him and that He is always there.

I find learning about other religions refreshing and I’d be “Oh, that’s how it is!” XD I don’t like it when other people criticize one’s religion. I respect every religion and their choices and I hate it when they say that one’s belief is wrong and that a certain religion sounds far-fecthed and all that. D;

Jediism… That’s why the name reminded me of Star Wars. It is based on Jedi’s spiritual ideas after all. XD I’m not going to say “OMG! You should stick to your current religion! Why are you changing your religion?” because that isn’t right of me to do that. It’s your life and your choice anyway, so what right do I have to interfere? XD

I’m not a very religious person either, but I do believe in my religion and I don’t think I’d want to change my religion. :)

My grandma is catholic and when I ask her things that she can’t answer, it just really gets to me. I am all for respecting someone’s religion, but I have so many questions that even most very religious people can’t answer. I dunno, I consider my self an agnostic atheist. That just means that you basically aren’t sure. Like you want to believe, but you sort of can’t. I don’t know. So confusing >.<

Our mentally towards religion are alike. I, too, am catholic but mehhh. I keep God in my heart and that’s all that really matters to me. I even question it sometimes but I figured it’s actually good to do so every now and again. I like hearing from others’ viewpoints about Catholicism but it does become an issue when they cross that certain line. And you’re right. No one has the right to push you out of or into believing. We’re all individuals for crying out loud! That’s one thing I can’t stand about religious freaks sometimes – they think their reiligion is “correct” or ” legit.” what’s even worst is when they try to drag you into their little kingdom or righteousness.
To be honest I’m not even sure what I’d consider myself as. I pretty much read about a religion and if I agree with it I believe in it. So my beliefs are basically branched out from everywhere. Hehe

I’m Jewish! Hehe, Happy Hanukkah to you, even though you don’t celebrate it. :P It’s funny because I’m both Jewish and Christian, so me and my dad (and a little bit of my sister, although she doesn’t understand it fully because she is only 9) disagree on what we believe in. My dad sometimes gets mad at me, because of what I believe in, I won’t say it on here because I don’t want to start something, but it’s kind of annoying because it’s what I believe in, it’s not his choice to make me believe in something that I don’t. Ya know?

Wow, that’s crazy about the online forum. I don’t think it was a good idea from the start to start a religion thread, anything that has to do with religion can get very touchy very quickly. People should learn how to respect the opinions and beliefs of other people.

That also happens with me and my mom, usually when she’s sick. Then it turns into “when your sick I don’t treat you like this” and she gets even more angry and then I feel bad. But we always make up. I hope that you get on better terms with your mom! :) I’m sure that you will work things out.

I totally agree with everything you have just said on religions – true it is a very touchy and very sensitive topic – both online and offline…

I always believe that we (no matter what religion you are) are all connected to God on one level or another via our hearts and souls –

I also believe even if you do not believe in God or even if you do not worship the same god as the next person – God is the same just different name in various religions but am going off track here – in all religions am sure there is this one very important aspect of the human mortal life – that we as mortals all have the choice to do what is right in life…we all know right from wrong…how our own lives turn out is what we get in life and what we do with the life that God has given us – is clearly up to us…

At the end of the day and am sure this apply to ALL RELIGION – at the end of the day on JUDGMENT DAY – all our lives will be reviewed and the greatest question will be asked – did we make our lives worthwhile? Did we put our lives to good use? Did we choose the right path? I know multiple questions but the one question will overwrite all others – Did we live our lives the right way according to our own personal believes and did it effect others in a good positive way?

I am not God therefore I can’t say how he will judge each and every one of us but I will say that the one thing he look for in each and every one of us – is how we each lived our lives and if we lived the quality kinda life in which would leave a positive impact and influence on others…did we set good examples for others?

I will stop as I think am not makin sense – this sounds like my next blog topic which I think I will blog bout in the near future…I hope all what I said make alot of sense.

I’m like you, I respect other people’s religions, even though I don’t believe in anything myself. I find it really rude when people tell others their beliefs are wrong, even when it’s not about religion. I hate it.

What annoys me more than that, is when someone tells me they don’t believe in something that obviously exists. Like ‘I don’t believe in marriage’. Well believe in it honey cause it’s real. I don’t know why that bothers me so much, but it does.

I can’t believe that people would be that cruel though. And all over a forum? That is kind of stupid. But they always say that people are meaner behind a computer.

Ooo I’m a Catholic and I’m not really into my religion as well. Maybe because my parents are Buddhists and I still have to follow their religious tradition.

I pray everyday and I go to the church every week but I feel I’m not really into my religion. Well first of all I haven’t been baptized, and I always yawn in the church 0.o I always pay a lot of attention but I don’t know why I always yawn. Maybe it’s very silent there so I feel a little bit sleepy.

Ha I wonder what are those people thinking. I think if they are really religious themselves, they should respect others’ opinions even though it’s about their religion. They shouldn’t argue about it.

Religion is a pretty sensitive subject between my group at school. Some people say catch phrases that offend like, OMJ (I think you can figure out what that is) and it is offensive to my friend who's Catholic. Yet it's really weird how the person who says OMJ does scripture classes. o_O

I'm non religious but I do try and keep open minded about other people's religions and customs because something I might end up saying will offend 😳

Lets hope you and your mum sort it all out soon :) I hope she gets better soon. Maybe it's her illness that's affecting the arguments?

Oh it’s understandable if you are not really “into” a religion even if you belongs to one. It’s not as far as saying you are agnostic but it is simply saying that you are not overtly religious. :)

I definitely agree with you that learning other people’s religions does indeed broaden one’s horizons. I’m a Muslim, but I find all other religions to be fascinating. I study a little bit of Christianity, Hinduism and Buddhism and each one of them displays a remarkable level of thinking and spiritual achievements of the practitioners.
Yeah religion has always been a touchy subject and will always be.

Ooo, you are going to start teaching soon eh? Mine supposed to start in February, had I still stayed in my previous bachelor programme. But since I’ve moved to a different programme, the supervised teaching (we call it Teaching Practice) would be conducted in February 2011.

I’m also very intrigued by different religions and agree with you in numerous ways. Such as the belief that learning about other religions would likely broaden your horizons, rather then restrict it. That just doesn’t make sense! How would it restrict it?! /ehh

I was raised a strict Mormon. Now I don’t have a necessarily heavy, secure religion, but I do I lean more towards Buddhism, or Taoism (which I guess it’s necessarily a religion but more of a lifestyle?). I try to be close to “God” and find spirituality on my own terms, through nature and thought.

Still though, I’m so intrigued by various religions. Especially Judaism! It sounds so lovely from what I’ve heard.

I’m so sorry your mom is sick, Georgina. I know how that is. When I was younger my mom once had mono for a full year. It was terrible. And respect? Gah. It’s so hard to find a balance there in terms to family.

Ah, I hate when people like think that YOUR religion is always true. What matters is what you think. You can’t force someone to believe. I don’t have any Jewish friends, not that I’m like judging them, but I just aren’t friends with the people who just happen to be Jewish. Well, actually now that I think of it, I’m friends with like one person, but we’re not like best friends. XD Religion is a belief, even if you can’t always prove it. Sometimes just having faith is enough proof for some people.

Yeah, I don’t like it when people try to force other people to change religions. My friends and I got invited to a seminar and I thought it was a spiritual seminar but it was about another religion and trying to convince us to change. If I were to change my religion, it would be because of my own will, not some people coaxing me to do it.

That’s what I thought too. On design sites it’s just sooo….not right. I remember on Piczo I used to have celeb layouts all the time. When I got a domain, I still did it. Then I heard about it being illegal, and started working on non celeb layouts. I actually do prefer non celebrity because it’s easier, more professional, and it’s just plain better. :D

I completely understand what you mean about religion. When I was in high school it was a touchy topic for everyone, but now that I’m in college it never seems to come up, since everyone in my program is so diverse.

I agree with you on your religious view. I really don’t like to get on the religious topic, like you said, some people just think they’re right and so on. It’s good to know about other religion’s view instead of just assuming what you think it is.

I’ve always felt that religion is a very taboo topic to talk about. So many people get to into it and say that what they believe in is the right religion to believe in and that everything else s beliefs is bull sh*t

Religion is a touchy subject. I’m a strong Catholic but I’m always open to hearing about other people’s religions. I never like to say CATHOLICISM IS THE ONLY RELIGION. Sure, believe what you want, and go ahead and tell me about yours. As long as you don’t try to convert me I’m good. I just love hearing the traditions and customs, the beliefs all of it. :D My school teaches to be open to the kind of stuff because although I go to a private Catholic school, it’s full of people of different religions :D

Surprisingly, since I received your comment ( I read it way back when), I’ve been feeling a lot better about this whole Kuya situation. I’ve received a lot of support from a lot of people. And well, I’m starting to think that I just mistaked my friend feelings for something else. Sometimes, I don’t understand myself :P

Of course, with the whole feeling better thing there seems to have been consequences. Kuya once told me that someone told him that the last step before getting completely over someone is getting angry at them :P and I was like.. that’s kind of true. I got mad at my exe before I realized I was completely over him.

And the thing with Kuya is, I’ve been getting angry at him a lot :P Maybe I’m just bipolar or he’s just being extremely annoying :P

Everyone has always told me… it’ll all work out. And now, I’m just scared that because I revealed my dumb feelings for him, things just won’t be the same. :P It’s really all a confusing matter still. Or well, I like to call it so so I don’t have to deal with it so much.

Religion will always be an insanely touchy subject but people always blow it way out of proportion. It’s just one of those things that people can’t seem to have an intelligent debate about. There is too much passion and feeling involved and there is nothing to prove and yet they feel they have to keep trying to prove it nonstop.

I agree with you as far as letting everyone think and believe what they want and respecting that. I wish everyone else felt the same way.
