A Single Flower on the Street Corner

A single flower on the street corner,
Reminds me all too much of you.

A single flower on the street corner,
And I wish you’d remember me too.

I sit here trying to write,
do my daily chores;
hourly I glance outside,
at the autumn tree.

Sycamore maybe.

I never quite bothered to find out
exactly what it was,
but it was special.

I’m not meant to be here,
I’ve a day off;
but I need to catch up,
don’t distract me.

I don’t want to fail again.

Like those years back when I
neglected to notice
it was important.

A single leaf falls from the tree,
I wish I hadn’t remembered.

A single leaf falls from the tree,
But in ways I wish I did.

I look back down at my work,
physics bio and chem;
but I keep on looking out,
hoping you’ll remember.

You never did.

But I always forgave you because
you just are who you are,
I am who I am.

I actually study this time,
formulae, processes;
equations and the like,
I’m catching on.

Maybe I’ll succeed.

It was all about you and not me,
I was hopelessly
in love with you.

A single flower on the street corner ..
you stand with it in your hand,
amongst the autumn leaves.

You remembered.
